Cooking with Ground Beef

Ground beef is the most flexible meat in the shop: it browns in minutes, takes on any seasoning, and stretches with rice, beans or vegetables. This collection covers the classics (burgers, chili, meatloaf, lasagna, Salisbury steak) and quicker dinners like Korean beef rice bowls, lettuce wraps and a one-pan beef and rice skillet.

Fat content matters. An 80/20 blend stays juicy in burgers and meatballs; leaner beef suits rice bowls and sauces where you would pour the fat off anyway. Each recipe says which it uses, with step-by-step instructions and per-serving nutrition.

Frequently Asked Questions

What temperature should ground beef be cooked to?

71°C (160°F) in the centre. Unlike a steak, ground beef has surface bacteria mixed all the way through, so burgers and meatballs should be cooked through.

Which fat percentage should I buy?

80/20 for burgers, meatballs and meatloaf, where the fat keeps them moist. Leaner (85-90%) for sauces, chili and rice bowls, where extra fat would only pool on top.

Can I swap in ground turkey?

In most of these, yes. Several recipes already list it as an option; turkey is leaner, so add a little oil when browning and season a touch more.
